Fluid service or a shifting concern?
Tell us your vehicle, mileage and symptoms. We can help determine whether maintenance or diagnosis is the appropriate starting point.
WHAT ARE YOU NOTICING?
Transmission Symptoms That Deserve Attention
One symptom can have several causes. A fluid change is not a substitute for diagnosing an active transmission problem.
Delayed Engagement
A pause before the vehicle engages Drive or Reverse can involve hydraulic pressure, controls or internal components. Persistent delays deserve diagnosis.
Hard or Erratic Shifting
A jolt, unexpected shift or repeated hesitation may stem from transmission operation, engine performance or electronic controls. A scan code alone is not a diagnosis.
Slipping or Rising Engine RPM
If engine speed climbs without a corresponding increase in road speed, have the vehicle evaluated rather than assuming a fluid change will correct it.
Fluid Leaks or Warning Messages
Visible fluid beneath the vehicle, a burning smell or a transmission temperature warning deserves attention. If the vehicle is overheating or unsafe to drive, stop safely and follow your owner’s manual.
If a warning instructs you to stop, the vehicle will not engage a gear, or there is severe slipping or overheating, follow your owner’s manual and arrange safe transportation rather than continuing to drive.
TWO DIFFERENT NEEDS
Transmission Maintenance vs. Transmission Diagnosis
The right service starts with the reason for your visit—not a one-size-fits-all flush recommendation.
01 · PLANNED CARE
Transmission Fluid Maintenance
Transmission fluid helps lubricate, cool and support hydraulic operation in many automatic transmissions. The correct fluid, level-setting procedure and maintenance interval depend on the specific vehicle and transmission.
Best when: service is due according to your vehicle’s guidance, and no active concern requires diagnosis.
02 · WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG
Transmission Evaluation
Shift quality problems, leaks and warning messages may involve more than fluid condition. Evaluation can involve a symptom review, diagnostic information and checks appropriate to the vehicle.
Best when: shifts feel different, a warning appears or you suspect a leak or malfunction.

CONFIRMED SERVICE CAPABILITY
BG Transmission Fluid Exchange: Vehicle-Specific Care
Dave Arbogast Buick GMC offers BG transmission fluid exchange service. It can be a maintenance option when the procedure and fluid meet the requirements for your specific vehicle.
Not every transmission uses the same fluid, schedule or service method. Some require special level checks; others have different maintenance instructions. Our team can review the applicable service information before recommending work.
A BG fluid exchange is not a guaranteed fix for slipping, damaged components or an existing transmission fault.

Vehicle-Specific Service Comes First
We match service recommendations to the transmission, mileage, condition and applicable manufacturer guidance.
WHY GM-SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE MATTERS
Your GM Transmission Is More Complex Than a Fluid Change.
Fluid chemistry, fill and level-setting methods, temperature conditions and electronic controls differ by model, year and transmission. Our approach starts with the requirements of the specific vehicle—not a universal service interval.
01
Correct fluid specification
Different GM transmissions can call for different fluids. Using the wrong type can affect transmission operation.
02
Proper procedure
Applicable fill temperatures, level checks and service procedures can vary by transmission design.
03
Diagnosis before parts
Electronic controls, engine performance and transmission components can create similar symptoms. Identifying the concern helps avoid guesswork.
Our Troy service team includes GM World Class Technicians and ASE-certified technicians. Individual credentials vary. We focus on Buick and GMC, specialize in Chevrolet and Cadillac, and welcome nearly all makes and models within our capabilities.

TRANSMISSION SERVICE FAQS
Transmission Questions, Answered.
Straight answers about maintenance intervals, fluid exchanges and symptoms that may call for diagnosis.
How often should I change my transmission fluid?▾
There is no universal mileage interval. Your model year, transmission, driving conditions and maintenance schedule determine when fluid service is recommended. Severe-use schedules can differ from normal-use schedules. Our team can check the guidance applicable to your vehicle.
Is a transmission fluid exchange the same as a transmission flush?▾
The terms are often used interchangeably, but service equipment and methods can differ. What matters is whether the method, fluid specification, quantity and level-setting procedure are approved for your transmission. Ask our team which procedure is appropriate for your vehicle.
Can a transmission fluid change fix slipping or harsh shifts?▾
Not necessarily. Fluid condition or level can contribute to some symptoms, but faults in electronic controls, hydraulic components or internal mechanical parts can produce similar behavior. An evaluation should determine the cause before assuming maintenance will fix a drivability concern.
Why is my transmission shifting hard or hesitating?▾
Harsh or delayed shifts can have several causes, including fluid concerns, transmission control issues or engine performance problems. The exact operating conditions and stored data help guide testing. A diagnostic trouble code identifies an area to investigate; it does not by itself confirm a failed transmission.
How much does transmission fluid service cost?▾
The total depends on your vehicle, required fluid, service method and any additional work identified. Some transmissions require specific fluids or temperature-dependent level checks. Contact our Troy service team for a vehicle-specific estimate and review current service specials.
Do you service GMC, Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac transmissions?▾
Our service department focuses on Buick and GMC and also specializes in Chevrolet and Cadillac. The team includes GM World Class Technicians and ASE-certified technicians; individual credentials vary. Contact us with your year, model and symptoms so we can discuss the appropriate service.
Should I drive with a transmission temperature warning or severe slipping?▾
Follow the instructions in your owner’s manual. If a warning directs you to stop, the transmission overheats, the vehicle cannot reliably engage a gear or driving appears unsafe, stop in a safe location and arrange assistance rather than continuing to drive.
For vehicle-specific guidance, consult the official Buick manuals or GMC manuals.
