KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS
What Is Your Cooling System Telling You?
The radiator works with the thermostat, water pump, cooling fans, hoses and coolant to control engine temperature. These symptoms can help you describe the concern, but they do not identify a failed part on their own.
01 · TEMPERATURE
Engine Running Hot
A rising temperature gauge or engine-temperature warning may involve restricted coolant flow, fan operation or other faults. Follow the specific warning instructions promptly.
02 · FLUID LOSS
Coolant Leaks or Low Coolant
A recurring low level, a puddle or a sweet odor can point to leaks at hoses, the reservoir, radiator or another connection. Some leaks appear only when the system is hot or pressurized.
03 · CABIN HEAT
Heater Blowing Cold Air
On many gasoline-powered vehicles, low coolant or circulation problems can reduce cabin heat. Mention whether the temperature changes while driving or idling.
04 · AIRFLOW
Hotter While Idling
A temperature increase in traffic can be associated with cooling-fan or airflow issues, though other causes are possible. Tell the advisor when it occurs.
If the engine is overheating or steam appears
Pull over safely, follow your owner’s manual warnings and shut off the engine when directed. Never open a hot coolant pressure cap—escaping steam or fluid can cause burns. Arrange assistance rather than continuing to drive an overheating vehicle.
DIAGNOSE BEFORE REPLACING PARTS
A Coolant Leak Is Not Always a Bad Radiator
A radiator, hose connection, thermostat, water pump and cooling fan can lead to different symptoms. Identifying the cause first helps avoid replacing a part that is not responsible for the problem.

A pressure test can help locate leaks.

VEHICLE-SPECIFIC DIAGNOSTICS
Find the Cause. Then Plan the Repair.
Depending on your vehicle, symptoms and inspection findings, the team may check:
- Coolant level and condition once safe to inspect
- Hoses, radiator, reservoir and accessible connections
- System pressure and visible leak locations
- Thermostat, water-pump and cooling-fan operation as indicated
- Relevant warning messages and model-specific procedures
Our Troy team includes GM World Class Technicians and ASE-certified technicians; credentials vary by individual. GM-specific information supports service for Buick, GMC, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles, alongside other makes we can service.
CONFIRMED SERVICE AT OUR TROY LOCATION
BG Cooling System Service: Help Maintain Cooling Performance
Dave Arbogast Buick GMC offers BG Cooling System Service. Over time, coolant can lose some of the corrosion protection needed by compatible cooling-system parts, even when the reservoir is full.
Proper coolant maintenance helps the system manage heat, freezing conditions and corrosion protection. The correct service procedure, fluid specification and timing depend on your vehicle.
Maintenance and repair are different. A coolant exchange does not fix a leaking radiator, failed water pump or another cause of overheating. Tell us about any symptoms when booking so we can help determine whether diagnosis should come first.

VEHICLE-SPECIFIC GUIDANCE
The Right Coolant and the Right Timing Matter
The Correct Specification
Some GM models specify DEX-COOL or another vehicle-specific fluid. Check the exact owner’s manual before selecting or adding coolant; fluid color is not proof of compatibility.
The Appropriate Interval
Coolant service intervals differ by year, model, engine and previous service history. Both time and mileage may matter, even when the coolant level appears normal.
Top-Off vs. Maintenance
Topping off a cool reservoir with correctly specified fluid is different from changing aging coolant. Repeated loss is a symptom to investigate, not a reason to keep adding fluid.
Find the instructions for your exact vehicle
Your owner’s manual identifies warning messages, coolant requirements and maintenance timing for the model and engine you drive.

COOLING SYSTEM FAQS
Cooling System Questions, Answered.
Straight answers about coolant maintenance, radiator problems and what to do when your engine runs hot.
Is a coolant flush the same as radiator repair?▾
No. A coolant exchange replaces aging fluid; radiator repair addresses a failed or leaking part. If coolant keeps disappearing or the engine runs hot, diagnosis may be needed before fluid service.
How often should I change coolant in my Buick or GMC?▾
Follow the maintenance schedule for your exact model year, engine and specified coolant. Time and mileage both matter, and past repairs or mixed fluids may change the recommended next step. Our service team can review the vehicle information with you.
Will a coolant flush fix an overheating engine?▾
Not necessarily. Overheating can involve leaks, cooling fans, a thermostat, water pump or other faults. Replacing fluid cannot repair a failed component; have the cause evaluated before assuming maintenance alone will help.
Why is my coolant disappearing without a visible leak?▾
Some cooling-system leaks appear only at operating temperature or under pressure, leaving little evidence when the car is parked. In other cases, coolant can escape from areas that are not easy to see. Continued coolant loss deserves professional diagnosis.
Can I drive with a coolant leak or overheating warning?▾
Do not continue driving an overheating vehicle. Pull over safely, follow the owner’s manual warning and arrange assistance when needed. Even a smaller recurring leak should be inspected promptly because the system can lose coolant and overheat unexpectedly.
What does BG Cooling System Service do?▾
BG Cooling System Service is a coolant-maintenance service offered at our Troy Buick GMC department. The advisor can explain the process, the proper fluid for your vehicle and whether a coolant exchange is due. It is not a substitute for repairing an active leak or overheating fault.
What coolant does my vehicle need? Can I mix antifreeze colors?▾
Use the coolant specification given for your particular vehicle, not the fluid’s color. Similar-looking coolants can have different formulations, and matching colors do not establish compatibility. If you are unsure what is in the system, ask before adding or mixing fluid.
Why is my car heater blowing cold air?▾
On many gasoline or diesel vehicles, low coolant, trapped air or circulation problems can affect the heater core and cabin heat. A blower or climate-control issue can cause a similar complaint. Mention any temperature warnings or coolant loss when scheduling.
How much do a coolant flush or radiator repair cost?▾
Cost depends on the vehicle, specified coolant, service procedure and any diagnosis or parts required. A planned fluid exchange and a radiator replacement are different services. Call our team at 937-980-0569 with your year, model and symptoms for guidance on the next step and an estimate.
